10 actions in the First 90 days

  • Meet with and learn more about the day-to-day roles and responsibilities and identify professional development needs and priorities of municipal staff (e.g. appreciative inquiry, conflict resolution, equity, diversity and inclusion)

  • Review all existing plans, strategies, and fiscal structures/expenditures, review municipal webpage for content and information sharing

  • Establish clear roles and responsibilities between municipal staff and council; identify and appoint representation of youth on municipal council

  • Undertake a survey of all businesses and individuals who have interacted with the municipality in the last year determine the level of client satisfaction with municipal services and the delivery of those services

  • Start of a monthly Mayor’s community drop-in at local venues in both wards to allow people to meet others, engage in conversation, share thoughts, ideas and concerns, and build community

  • Identify and meet with key community organizations and leaders to design effective engagement processes to develop Our Common Future – a “big picture” strategy for the future of Port Hope, with set actions and measurable outcomes around the five campaign platform priorities

  • Create a Mayor’s Business Group of local small businesses and voices focused on economic development, tourism, heritage preservation and marketing, a Mayor’s Advisory on Land Use Planning, and a Mayor’s Creative Coalition to advise on what art, culture and recreation/sports organizations, artists and creative entrepreneurs need to be successful

  • Start a new podcast – What’s Up, Port Hope? to share information and cover important community topics, featuring dynamic guests who can help spark conversation and debate

  • Take three actions to advance Truth and Reconciliation in the municipality of Port Hope

  • Join the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy (the largest global alliance for climate leadership of over 11,500 cities and local governments), Local Government for Sustainability Canada, and the Creative City Network of Canada (CCNC), a national non-profit organization made up of municipalities, organizations and individuals working to support cultural development in their communities
